December 2006

It is the end of the sixth year of the new Century and in these few years millions of humans and species have died been tortured falsely imprisoned, born lived and died in Camps for refuges, daily. The Religions and Tribes blast to smithereens each other’s innocent victims in the name of one Religion or another Religion.

The gift of bread and wine as the fruits of labour is but one interpretation.

Saddam Hussein Hung By Cheering Lynch Mob

Saddam Hussein has been hung on what is one of the most Holy Muslim days, Eid al-Adha, or ‘the Feast of the Sacrifice’. He exchanged insults with the guards and witnesses before a cloth was put around his neck. He refused the blindfold and shouted out his defiance against the occupiers and support for Palestine.

One of those in attendance shouted out for the taunting to stop. The execution itself was similar to an Al Qaeda video, with the chanting mob spoiling for blood and chanting out slogans for Shia militia groups.

New labours move to grant Foundation status to NHS hospitals was always denied by them as a move to create a two tier NHS. The first entirely private NHS hospital has opened its doors.

Their drip drip Americanisation of the service had raised fears that it was a thin edge of an ideological drive to dismantle the NHS that we all love and respect.

When the Liverpool Times reported the appointment of Liverpool’s ex Chief Executive ( Sir David Henshaw ) to be the NHS North West boss, we warned he’d been given the job to privatise the service. His success in privatising most of local government had made him a firm favourite with Tory Blair.

He did this without a murmur of protest from the legions of labour Councillors, who, if it were being pushed by the Tories, would have raised the roof tops in protest.

They won’t stop will they?

Polluting firm Sonae, who have polluted Kirkby and surrounding areas since they set up in 2001, have issued more legal threats against local websites and certain individuals. We will report more on this as the news comes in but it looks like another Liverpool website is lined up for the legal shenanigans that anyone who ever spoke a word of truth in Liverpool seems to fall foul of.

Not having taken the hint from their regular appearances in Huyton Magistrates Court, the Sonae management still insist that the Sonae factory is practically pumping out oxygen enriched air to the good people of Kirkby.

Knowsley council are bragging about incorporating a wireless digital communication network system into lampposts. The idea for a free public access network seems good and is one that The Kirkby Times envisioned being created via use of the funds which have poured into this area.

However, before we all run to the nearest Lamppost to sing a verse of ‘Surfing by the Lamp post” it might be a good idea to make the normal lampposts work before we roll out the wireless system. But that’s Knowsley council for you, accentuate good things which might happen and ignore the here and now when bad things are happening. Kind of like an ostrich going one step further and just burying its head where the sun doesn’t shine.

Nativity 2006

2000 years or so after the birth of Christ, the town were the birth took place is pretty much an ‘open prison’, with a giant wall surrounding the territories of Israel. It is a truly a miracle that the Jewish, Christian or Muslims who live there still have faith and that people might still love their neighbours, despite the suspicion and division that has taken root there.

As the time of year is upon us, we veer away from the usual news and offer a little tale which recreates what might have happened if Jesus had been born today. A modern day nativity play, with a twist.

The debate continues!

The debate continues whether Liverpool should have an elected Mayor.

Sadly, disillusionment and cynicism among voters threaten to undermine the arguments on both sides of the debate. Perhaps one of the strongest arguments for an elected Mayor for Liverpool can be summed up in two words; London and Manchester.

London, under Ken Livingston, usually gets what it wants from central government. Most recently the shed load of money for a new transport infrastructure for the 2012 Olympic games. New labour also consolidated London’s centralised power base.

Manchester, which positions itself as the centre of the North West, had a ten year start on Liverpool. It tapped into the massive regeneration programmes that began in the early 1990s, working pragmatically with the Conservative government. On Merseyside Knowsley Council followed a similar lead. (though on public spending they bizarrely call these growth years ( 1990- 1997 ) as ”the Tory Cuts“

As a consequence, Liverpool were left behind after failing to apply for the available government grants that went to their neighbours in St Helens and Knowsley Councils.

Warning, horrible looking people ahead!

Few people can forget the ‘magic moment’ when every pen pusher in the city leapt up into the air, almost resembling Christians applauding the return of the Messiah or the attendees of a Beatles convention being told that Paul McCartney was going to do an acoustic spot of blues music. (my women is evil, my women left me and so on)

The moment that Henshaw and David Storey were told that Liverpool had won the capital of culture 2008 award, was a sight to behold. Needless to say - similar scenes were not being played out in the council estates of Kirkby and Toxteth and Norris Green.

Wisdom

As the vine I have brought forth a pleasant odour and my flowers are the fruit of honour and riches. I am the mother of fair love and of fear and of knowledge and of holy hope. In me is all grace of the way and of the truth, in me is all hope of life and of virtue. Come over to me all ye that desire me and be filled with my fruits; for my spirit is sweet above honey, and my inheritance above honey and the honey and the honeycomb. My memory is unto everlasting generations. They that eat me shall yet hunger; and they that drink me shall yet thirst. He that hearkened to me shall not be confounded and they that work by me shall not sin. They that explain me shall have everlasting life.

Book of Wisdom (Ecc. 24)

No man serves two masters he will hate one and love the other or sustain one and despise the other you cannot serve God and Mammon.

Mathew 6

We see this as a state of conflict one that exists not just in Religious Ritual but also, in an increasing complex Religio Political and Secular War for the Governing of thoughts.

Will it ever end?

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) is a described as an American satirical news television program. It is produced by and run on the Comedy Central cable television network which is part of the MTV network.

In the Sept 19th 2006 edition of the Daily Show, Jon Stewart presented a ‘comedy’ piece which used a ‘Crowd Violence Scale’ to measure and compare riots. The ‘joke’ involved comparing Hillsborough and a January sales crowd to the Muslim cartoon riots. Small excerpts of the events are shown.

Giving something back

The Liverpool Times uses WordPress blog publishing software to run the website we now have before us. WordPress is one of the best, if not the best open source website platforms out there. It is a website, but much more than a website. What we have is basically a free website publishing platform for the people.

WordPress enables people with little or no knowledge of website design to run their own website. Some call it a ‘blog’, but depending on the content, you can call it what you like and make it into anything you wish. Many professionals use WordPress websites or blogs. A homeless person could run a blog also. Never before has there been a period in the history of mankind when a King or Pauper might be able to reach a mass audience.

The Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright confirmed at the clubs AGM last week that the club is investigating a move outside the City. It was reported to the its shareholders that the club had agreed a three way partnership with Tesco and Knowsley Council to explore the possibility of a new 50.000-seater stadium in Kirkby.

The Daily Post reports this was met with a hostile reception. Kenwright forced the issue by stating that staying at Goodison is not an option. The possible move to Kirkby is a follow on from the secret report to Knowsley Councils Cabinet (12 July 2006) which confirmed the Council had met with Tesco on the 29 June 2006 to negotiate the terms of the draft Co-Operation Agreement.

And you and me!

A few years ago, an incident inside Knowsley Council set some alarm bells ringing.

It was revealed that a senior Councillor had been victimised after he had complained about overseas expenses claimed by its then Chief Executive, David Henshaw.

The cogency of the complaint became almost irrelevant when the handling of it threw up many hitherto unheard of practices.

Firstly, the Councillor who made the complaint was a highly qualified NHS practioner, intelligent and scrupulously honest. The source for his complaint was from inside the Council administration itself. This was a clear indication that something was clearly troubling finance officers that they felt the need to ventilate their concerns about their own boss.

With the agreement of the then Council leader J Keight, Henshaw set about taking control of the complaints process, this despite the complaint being directly against him.

There is the important role of continuing expectations of a passage of time amid the surrounding sounds of Hymns, Songs, Prayers, Carols sung in Nativity Plays of a thousand tears for a thousand three to four year olds.

The Twenty First Century crashed in on us and deliberately set itself to confuse us with its demand for the co existence of a multiplicity of lifestyles. We do not want to be forced into a continuous development of another dominant Faith Style, thank you very much for the offer but not at the moment thank you anyway.
